Cold Steel Mizutori Wakizashi

(Ref: CS-88CKW)

The Crane is a symbol of luck and longevity, loyalty and strength, and is a much-loved symbol in Japan. As we developed a new Katana to add to our longstanding and world-renowned line-up of Japanese blades, we felt it only fitting to add the Crane as a motif. The Mizutori Katana is a high-end, high-performance blade that was inspired by older, practical battlefield Katana.

Measuring a hair under thirty inches, the Mizutori’s blade is made from high quality Damascus steel and differentially hardened with a clay tempered Hamon. The handsome blade features a hand sharpened Hamaguri grind with highly polished spine and blade flats. The Tsuba and Menuki both feature an iconic crane motif, and the high quality ray-skin handle is tightly wrapped in brown silk cord, adding a level of detail and beauty that must be seen to be believed.

Housed inside a lustrous black lacquered Saya, the Mizutori Katana a stunning and attractive sword that is sure to become the pride of your collection!

The Mizutori Wakizashi mirrors the materials, fit and finish of its larger brother in every way except size. It’s equally light and fast, and with the same high-quality materials, but at a fraction of the size, making it an exquisite companion piece to the Mizutori Katana, or a beautiful stand-alone blade.

Gold Lion Wakizashi

(Ref: CS-88ABW)

The Cold Steel Gold Lion Katana represents a Samurai’s “every day carry sword” for personal protection, and the defense of his Lord, his family and his home. Significantly lighter than some of our other heavier-duty Katana, it is not only faster in-hand, but easier and more comfortable to carry when tucked into an Obi and worn all day.

The Katana’s Menuki bears the symbol of the Japanese Shisa (Lion Dog) a guardian or protector - a fitting motif for this beautiful lightweight sword.

Measuring just under thirty inches, the Gold Lion Katana’s blade is made from expertly hand honed and highly polished Damascus steel, with a Hamaguri grind, peaked Iori Mune spine and undulating clay-tempered Hamon.

The black iron Tsuba, Fuchi and Kashira all have gleaming 24 carat gold leaf accents and the handle features white ray-skin and a black silk cord wrap.

The Gold Lion Wakizashi mirrors the materials, fit and finish of its larger brother in every way except size. It’s equally light and fast, and with the same high-quality materials, but at a fraction of the size, making it an exquisite companion piece to the Gold Lion Katana, or a beautiful stand-alone blade in its own right.

Cold Steel Warrior Wakizashi

(Ref: CS-88BWW)

The Japanese swords of the Emperor Series have proven, since their initial introduction almost five years ago, to be quite popular with many of our customers. Still, we are aware that there are some people who want a functional sword but hope to find one at a more affordable price. Our Warrior Series addresses this problem directly. In our efforts to reduce the costliness of the blades, we have omitted the expensive mirror polishing that we used on our Emperor Swords to create a new series of Japanese swords with a more practical finish.

The Warrior Series swords are very handsome in their own right and share the same steel, heat treatment, and sharpness as their more expensive Emperor counterparts. Like the Emperor swords, they have Samé covered, cord wrapped handles and quality fittings. If you're in the market for a strong, good looking, reasonably priced Japanese sword we know you'll be happy to own one of these. All come complete with a black lacquered scabbard and a blue/violet cover bag.

Key Features

  • 1055 Carbon Steel Blade
  • Black Lacquered Wood Saya
  • Functional Affordable Sword

Attributes

  • This wakizashi is sharp.
  • This wakizashi is fully functional.
  • This wakizashi is hand-forged.

Cold Steel Dragonfly Wakizashi

(Ref: CS-88DW)

The classic Japanese katana in all its incarnations has been celebrated for centuries, not only for its elegant lines and simple beauty, but also for the technique and skill that went into its construction.

Most swords offered today are interpretive copies of antiquities from feudal Japan. They were made for warrior's of small stature who seldom rose above five and a half feet. As skillfully designed as these swords are, they may not be perfectly suited for the twenty first century martial artist, who benefited from contemporary advances in childhood nutrition and healthcare and grew up to be a substantially taller, stronger, and more athletic version of his historical counterpart.

As a way of compensating for this size disparity, Cold Steel has created the Dragonfly Series. These swords feature thicker, wider and heavier blades, which mirror our Emperor Series in respect to heat treatment, polish, quality of furnishings, and attention to detail, but with a few new departures.

Most noticeable are the distinctive teal-green silk cord-wrap and black samé (ray skin) used on the handles and the black iron furniture that bears the dragonfly motif. Also, the polished blades are more strongly curved than our Imperial blades and terminate in a long “iris leaf” point for maximum cutting and slashing potential. Additionally, these swords come with two protective bags. There is a blue travel bag and an intricately decorative display bag that's made from the finest heavy silk metallic brocade.

Key Features

  • 1055 Carbon Steel Blade
  • Thicker, Wider & Heavier Blades
  • Maximum Cutting Potential

Attributes

  • This wakizashi is sharp.
  • This wakizashi is fully functional.
  • This wakizashi is hand-forged.

Cold Steel Emperor Wakizashi

(Ref: CS-88W)

The Cold Steel factory has used only traditional materials for our Japanese sword’s fittings. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel), are expertly made and finely crafted in nickel-silver brass.

The Habaki (blade collar) is hand made out of nickel-silver brass and each hilt is covered in Samé (ray skin) and tightly wrapped in the traditional style with black silk cord. A beautiful Menuki (a small ornamental sculpture inserted between the ray skin and the cord wrappings on the handle) enhances the sword's aesthetic appearance and makes for a sword that is as traditional looking as we can possibly make it.

All feature fully sharpened 1055 carbon steel blades, each heat treated to a spring temper. The blade surface is then given a careful polish by hand, with a distinctive mirror polish applied to the bo-hi.

All come complete with a black lacquered scabbard and a blue-violet cover bag.

  • 1055 Carbon Steel Blade
  • Traditional Fittings
  • Heat Treated Spring Temper

Cheness Tenchi Wakizashi in Shirasaya

(Ref: C139)

This is a Cheness through hardened 9260 Silicon Alloy Spring Steel wakizashi blade (same as those on Tenchi and Shura) Housed in a shirasaya. Information on the unique blade itself can be found at either the Tenchi page or Shura Page. Note: This sword does not come with sword bag or display box... The saya itself is the "disposable" protective container for the bare blade.

The Shirasaya (literal translation: "White scabbard") refers to a plain, unlacquered, wooden scabbard traditionally used as a basic long term holder for blades. The wood is kept raw intentionally to allow for the blade to "breath" through the scabbard. (Lacquering, painting, or varnishing a shirasaya would defeat the purpose).

The cross section shape of the shirasaya is very different than that of a working saya. This sword exhibits extremely tight tolerance between the saya and the tsuka as well as between the tsuka and mekugi as it is mounted first, then finished as one-piece. The blade is double pinned. Although this sword is fully sharpened as is with our tameshigiri cutters, a blade mounted in the shirasaya is not intended to be used for cutting. The shirasaya does not have a tsuba to prevent the hand from sliding upwards towards the blade, nor does it have wrapped handle to provide traction. As such, we do not recommend cutting with this blade until it is properly mounted.

Cheness Yamakami Wakizashi

(Ref: C102)

The Yamakami Wakizashi is part of Cheness' Specialised Goza Cutter Series of swords; it's been specially designed to be a high-performing cutting sword, handling goza mats and tatami omote with ease. The outstanding cutting ability is achieved by using Cheness' own 9260 silicon alloy carbon spring steel and combining it with a thinner blade profile, thus reducing the angle of attack between the blade and the mat, but by giving it a broader blade, you still keep the strength you need to make heavy cuts.

Designed to match the Yamakami Katana, this wakizashi also has brown cotton tsuka-ito over genuine ray skin, an attractive blackened steel silhouette of Mount Fuji tsuba which perfectly complements the high-gloss lacquered saya.

Hanwei Lion Dog Wakizashi

(Ref: SH2449)

The Lion Dog Wakizashi features an O-Kissaki blade of Hanwei's own high-alloy HWS-1S steel, which combines superior performance with an outstanding O-choji hamon. This steel is made in Hanwei's new factory, with high-tech equipment, producing a very pure advanced-metallurgy blade with the best edge-holding capability and resilience of any blade ever produced by Hanwei. The outstanding performance characteristics of blades forged from HWS-1S steel derive from a combination of the careful selection of alloying elements and a complex processing procedure, basically involving the manipulation of the steel’s carbon content across the blade section. This results in a very tough and resilient blade with a hard, highly abrasion-resistant edge.

The sharply detailed fittings feature a Lion-dog themed black iron tsuba, with matching fuchi/kashira and golden peony menuki. The complex saya features a gloss-lacquered ribbed section at the koiguchi/kurikata with the balance spatter-lacquered for a very attractive appearance.
